Raymond
Nonnatus, O. de M. (Catalan: Sant Ramon Nonat, Spanish: San Ramón Nonato,
French: Saint Raymond Nonnat, Maltese: San Rajmondo Nonnato), (1204 – 31 August
1240) is a saint from Catalonia in Spain. His nickname (Latin: Nonnatus,
"not born") refers to his birth by Caesarean section, his mother
having died while giving birth to him.
Raymond
is the patron saint of childbirth, midwives, children, pregnant women, and
priests defending the confidentiality of confession.
St. Raymond Nonnatus was born in
Catalonia, in the year 1204, and was descended of a gentleman's family of a
small fortune. In his childhood he seemed to find pleasure only in his
devotions and serious duties. His father, perceiving in him an inclination to a
religious state, took him from school, and sent him to take care of a farm
which he had in the country. Raymund readily obeyed, and, in order to enjoy the
opportunity of holy solitude, kept the sheep himself, and spent his time in the
mountains and forests in holy meditation and prayer. Some time after, he joined
the new Order of Our Lady of Mercy for the redemption of captives, and was
admitted to his profession at Barcelona by the holy founder, St. Peter Nolasco.
Within two or three years after his profession, he was sent into Barbary with a
considerable sum of money, where he purchased, at Algiers, the liberty of a
great number of slaves. When all this treasure was exhausted, he gave himself
up as a hostage for the ransom of certain others. This magnanimous sacrifice
served only to exasperate the Mohammedans, who treated him with uncommon
barbarity, till, fearing lest if he died in their hands they should lose the
ransom which was to be paid for the slaves for whom he remained a hostage, they
gave orders that he should be treated with more humanity. Hereupon he was
permitted to go abroad about the streets, which liberty he made use of to
comfort and encourage the Christians in their chains, and he converted and
baptized some Mohammedans. For this the governor condemned him to be put to
death by thrusting a stake into the body, but his punishment was commuted, and
he underwent a cruel bastinado. This torment did not daunt his courage. So long
as he saw souls in danger of perishing eternally, he thought he had yet done
nothing. St. Raymund had no more money to employ in releasing poor captives,
and to speak to a Mohammedan upon the subject of religion was death. He could,
however, still exert his endeavors, with hopes of some success, or of dying a
martyr of charity. He therefore resumed his former method of instructing and
exhorting both the Christians and the infidels. The governor, who was enraged,
ordered our Saint to be barbarously tortured and imprisoned till his ransom was
brought by some religious men of his Order, who were sent with it by St. Peter.
Upon his return to Spain, he was nominated cardinal by Pope Gregory IX., and
the Pope, being desirous to have so holy a man about his person, called him to
Rome. The Saint obeyed, but went no further than Cardona, when he was seized
with a violent fever, which proved mortal. He died on the 31st of August, in
the year 1240, the thirty-seventh of his age.

COLLECT
O God, Who didst make blessed Raymond, Thy Confessor, wonderful in
delivering Thy faithful held in captivity by the infidels, grant us by his
intercession that, being loosed from the bonds of our sins, we may with quiet
minds perform those things which are pleasing to Thee. Through our Lord.
EPISTLE - Ecclesiasticus 31: 8-11
Blessed is the man that is found without blemish, and that hath not gone
after gold, nor put his trust in money nor in treasures. Who is he, and we will
praise him? for he hath done wonderful things in his life. Who hath been tried
thereby, and made perfect, he shall have glory everlasting: he that could have
transgressed, and hath not transgressed: and could do evil things, and hath not
done them: therefore are his goods established in the Lord, and all the Church
of the Saints shall declare his alms.
GRADUAL - Psalm 91: 13, 14, 3
The Just shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow up like the
cedar of Libanus in the house of the Lord. To show forth Thy mercy in the
morning, and Thy truth in the night.
ALLELUIA - James 1: 12
Alleluia. Alleluia. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation for when
he hath been proved, he shall receive the crown of life. Alleluia.
GOSPEL - Luke 12: 35-40
At that time: Jesus said to His disciples: Let your loins be girt and lamps burning in
your hands, and you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when he
shall return from the wedding: that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open
to him immediately. Blessed are those servants whom the Lord, when he cometh,
shall find watching: amen I say to you that he will girt himself and make them
sit down to meat, and passing will minister unto them. And if he shall come in
the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are
those servants. But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hour
the thief would come, he would surely watch. and would not suffer his house to
be broken open. Be you then also ready, for at what hour you think not the Son
of man will come.
OFFERTORY- Psalm 88: 25
My truth and My mercy shall be with him: and in My name shall his horn
be exalted.

St. Rose, the first
canonized saint of the New World, was born at Lima in 1586. She received the
name of Isabella in Baptism, but one day her mother saw a beautiful rose
drooping over the baby’s cradle and ever afterwards called her Rose. She was an
obedient child; her mortifications were most severe. She prayed worked, and
wept for the conversion of sinners; she excelled in her love for holy purity.
She lived a life of simplicity and prayer in a small hut in a corner of her
father’s garden; the birds would visit her and sing with her the praises of
God. The Savior frequently appeared to her. Her devotion to the Passion of Our
Lord was remarkable as were her own sufferings. Her bed was strewn with glass
shards, with nails and thorns; she wore chafing hair-cloth; her head was
crowned with painful thorns skillfully concealed by roses. She died August 26,

Keep,
we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy Church with Thy perpetual mercy: and because,
without Thee the frailty of man is wont to fall, save it ever by Thine aid from
all things hurtful, and lead it to all things profitable to salvation. Through

Second Collect for St. Rose of Lima
Almighty
God, the giver of all good gifts, who, by the outpouring of the heavenly dew of
thy grace, didst enable thy blessed Saint Rose to shew forth among the peoples
of the Indies the glory of chastity and suffering: grant to us thy servants,
that running after her in the savour of her sweetness, we may be made a sweet
savour unto Christ our Lord. Who liveth
and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world
without end. R. Amen.
Third Collect Collect for Ss. Felix and Adauctus, Martyrs
O
Lord, we humbly beseech thy majesty: that, like as thou dost ever gladden us
with the remembrance of thy Saints; so thou wouldest evermore defend us with
their supplications.Through Jesus
Christ, thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of
the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end.
Epistle - Galatians 5:16-24
Lesson from the Epistle of Blessed Apostle Saint Paul
to the Galatians
Brethren,
Walk in the spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh: for the
flesh lusteth against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh for these
are contrary one to another: so that you do not the things that you would. But
if you are led by the spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the
flesh are manifest which are fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury,
idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, emulations, wraths, quarrels,
dissensions, sects, envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like of
which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things,
shall not obtain the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the spirit is charity,
joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, longanimity, mildness, faith,
modesty, continency, chastity. Against such there is no law. And they that are
Christ's, have crucified their flesh with the vices and concupiscences.
Gradual - Psalm 117: 8-9
It
is good to confide in the Lord, rather than to have confidence in man. v. It is
good to trust in the Lord, rather than to trust in princes.
Alleluia
Alleluia,
alleluia. Psalm 4:91 Come, let us praise
the Lord with joy; let us joyfully sing to God our Savior. Alleluia.
Gospel – St. Matthew 6:24-33
The Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Saint
Matthew
At
that time, Jesus said to His disciples: "No man can serve two masters for
he will hate the one and love the other, or he will sustain the one and despise
the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say to you, be not
solicitous for your life, what you shall eat, nor for your body, what you shall
put on. Is not the life more than the meat, and the body more than the raiment?
Behold the birds of the air for they neither sow nor do they reap, nor gather into
barns, and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are you not of much more value
than they? And which of you, by taking thought, can add to his stature one
cubit? And for raiment, why are you solicitous? Consider the lilies of the
field, how they grow; they labor not, neither do they spin but I say to you,
that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these. Now if God
so clothe the grass of the field, which is today, and tomorrow is cast in the
oven, how much more you, O ye of little faith! Be not solicitous therefore
saying: What shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or wherewith shall we be
clothed? for after all these things do the heathen seek. For your Father
knoweth that you have need of all these things. Seek ye therefore first the kingdom
of God, and His justice and all these things shall be added unto you."
Offertory – Psalm: 33:8-9
The
Angel of the Lord shall encamp round about them that fear Him, and shall
deliver them: O taste and see that the Lord is sweet!
Secret for the Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost
Look
graciously, O Lord, upon Thy people: graciously look upon our gifts, that,
being appeased by this offering, Thou mayest both grant us pardon, and give us
what we ask. Through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Second Secret Prayer for St. Rose of Lima
May
the Sacrifice of thy holy people be acceptable unto thee, O Lord, for the honour
of thy Saints: through whose merits they
know that they have received help in tribulation. Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, who
liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the same Holy Ghost, ever one
God, world without end.
Third Secret Prayer for Ss. Felix and Adauctus
We
beseech thee, O Lord, to look down in mercy on the offerings of thy
people:that, as we do devoutly offer
this our service to the honour of thy Saints, so we may be profited thereby to
the salvation of our souls.Through
Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity
of the same Holy Ghost, ever one God…
Preface of the Most Holy Trinity
It
is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all
times and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father Almighty,
Ever-Lasting God: Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy
Ghost, are one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the
Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory,
the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without
difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting
Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may
be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do
praise: who cease not daily to cry out with one voice saying:
Communion - Wisdom: 16:20

ye first the kingdom of God: and all things shall be added unto you, saith the

Postcommunion For The Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost
Filled
with Thy sacred gift, we humbly beseech Thee, O Lord, that what we celebrate
with our homage duly given by the intercession of Thy blessed martyr Lawrence,
we may also know as an increase of Thy saving grace within us. Through the same
Lord Jesus Christ.
Second Postcommunion for St. Rose of Lima
Thou
hast filled Thy household, O Lord, with sacred gifts; ever comfort us, we
beseech Thee, through her intercession whose festival we celebrate. Through our
Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of
the Holy Ghost, God…
Third Postcommunion for Ss. Felix and Adauctus
Filled
with Thy sacred gifts, O Lord, we beseech Thee that, by the intercession of Thy
saints, we may pass our lives in giving thanks to Thee. Through our Lord Jesus
Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy
Ghost, God…
But have we no need at all of a mediator with the Mediator himself? Are
we pure enough to be united directly to Christ without any help? Is Jesus not
God, equal in every way to the Father? Therefore is he not the Holy of Holies,
having a right to the same respect as his Father? If in his infinite love he
became our security and our Mediator with his Father, whom he wished to appease
in order to redeem us from our debts, should we on that account show him less
respect and have less regard for the majesty and holiness of his person?
Let us not be afraid to say with St. Bernard that we need a mediator
with the Mediator himself and the divinely-honored Mary is the one most able to
fulfill this office of love. Through
her, Jesus came to us; through her we should go to him. If we are afraid of
going directly to Jesus, who is God, because of his infinite greatness, or our
lowliness, or our sins, let us implore without fear the help and intercession
of Mary, our Mother. She is kind, she is tender, and there is nothing harsh or
forbidding about her, nothing too sublime or too brilliant. When we see her, we
see our own human nature at its purest. She is not the sun, dazzling our weak
sight by the brightness of its rays. Rather, she is fair and gentle as the
moon, which receives its light from the sun and softens it and adapts it to our
limited perception.
She is so full of love that no one who asks for her intercession is rejected,
no matter how sinful he may be. The saints say that it has never been known
since the world began that anyone had recourse to our Blessed Lady, with trust
and perseverance, and was rejected. Her power is so great that her prayers are
never refused. She has but to appear in prayer before her Son and he at once
welcomes her and grants her requests. The prayers of the dear Mother who bore
him and nourished him always lovingly conquer him.
Second Week
Day 20 of 33 Theme for the Week: Knowledge Of The Blessed
Virgin
Acts of love, pious affection for the Blessed Virgin, imitation of her
virtues, especially her profound humility, her lively faith, her blind
obedience, her continual mental prayer, her mortification in all things, her
surpassing purity, her ardent charity, her heroic patience, her angelic
sweetness, and her divine wisdom: "there being," as St. Louis De
Montfort says, "the ten principal virtues of the Blessed
Virgin."
We must unite ourselves to Jesus through Mary - this is the
characteristic of our devotion; therefore, Saint Louis De Montfort asks that we
employ ourselves in acquiring a knowledge of the Blessed Virgin.
Mary is our sovereign and our mediatrix, our Mother and our Mistress.
Let us then endeavor to know the effects of this royalty, of this mediation,
and of this maternity, as well as the grandeurs and prerogatives which are the
foundation or consequences thereof. Our Mother is also a perfect mold wherein
we are to be molded in order to make her intentions and dispositions ours. This
we cannot achieve without studying the interior life of Mary; namely, her
virtues, her sentiments, her actions, her participation in the mysteries of
Christ and her union with Him.
Luke 2:16-21, 45-52 And they came with haste; and they found Mary and
Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. And seeing, they understood of the
word that had been spoken to them concerning this child. And all that heard,
wondered; and at those things that were told them by the shepherds. But Mary
kept all these words, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had heard and seen, as it
was told unto them. And after eight days were accomplished, that the child
should be circumcised, his name was called JESUS, which was called by the
angel, before he was conceived in the womb...
...And not finding him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking him. And
it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting
in the midst of the doctors, hearing them, and asking them questions. And all
that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers. And seeing him,
they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us?
behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said to them: How is
it that you sought me? did you not know, that I must be about my father's
business? And they understood not the word that he spoke unto them. And he went
down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother
kept all these words in her heart. And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and age, and
grace with God and men.

St. Louis De Montfort's Prayer to Mary Hail Mary
Beloved Daughter of
the Eternal Father! Hail Mary, admirable Mother of the Son! Hail Mary, faithful
spouse of the Holy Ghost! Hail Mary, my dear Mother, my loving Mistress, my
powerful sovereign! Hail my joy, my glory, my heart and my soul! Thou art all
mine by mercy, and I am all thine by justice. But I am not yet sufficiently
thine. I now give myself wholly to thee without keeping anything back for
myself or others. If thou still seest in me anything which does not belong to
thee, I beseech thee to take it and to make thyself the absolute Mistress of
all that is mine. Destroy in me all that may be displeasing to God, root it up
and bring it to nought; place and cultivate in me everything that is pleasing
to thee.
May the light of thy
faith dispel the darkness of my mind; may thy profound humility take the place
of my pride; may thy sublime contemplation check the distractions of my
wandering imagination; may thy continuous sight of God fill my memory with His
presence; may the burning love of thy heart inflame the lukewarmness of mine;
may thy virtues take the place of my sins; may thy merits be my only adornment
in the sight of God and make up for all that is wanting in me. Finally, dearly
beloved Mother, grant, if it be possible, that I may have no other spirit but
thine to know Jesus and His divine will; that I may have no other soul but
thine to praise and glorify the Lord; that I may have no other heart but thine
to love God with a love as pure and ardent as thine I do not ask thee for
visions, revelations, sensible devotion or spiritual pleasures. It is thy
privilege to see God clearly; it is thy privilege to enjoy heavenly bliss; it
is thy privilege to triumph gloriously in Heaven at the right hand of thy Son and
to hold absolute sway over angels, men and demons; it is thy privilege to
dispose of all the gifts of God, just as thou willest.
Such is, O heavenly
Mary, the "best part," which the Lord has given thee and which shall
never be taken away from thee-and this thought fills my heart with joy. As for
my part here below, I wish for no other than that which was thine: to believe
sincerely without spiritual pleasures; to suffer joyfully without human
consolation; to die continually to myself without respite; and to work
zealously and unselfishly for thee until death as the humblest of thy servants.
The only grace I beg thee to obtain for me is that every day and every moment
of my life I may say: Amen, so be it's all that thou didst do while on earth;
Amen, so be it's all that thou art now doing in Heaven; Amen, so be it-to all
that thou art doing in my soul, so that thou alone mayest fully glorify Jesus
in me for time and eternity. Amen.

The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and
in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and
was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe the Holy
Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of
sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Hail, Holy
Queen
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness and our
hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee to we send up
our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most
gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet
Virgin Mary.
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
