and Four Crowned Martyrs
Four Crowned Martyrs
The Four Crowned Martyrs or Four Holy Crowned Ones refers to nine martyrs. The nine saints are divided
into two groups:
Severus (or
Secundius), Severian(us), Carpophorus (Carpoforus), Victorinus (Victorius,
Vittorinus).
Claudius,
Castorius, Symphorian (Simpronian), Nicostratus, and Simplicius.
According to
the Golden Legend, the names of the members of the first group were not known
at the time of their death “but were learned through the Lord’s revelation after
many years had passed."They were called the "Four Crowned
Martyrs" because their names were unknown ("crown" referring to
the crown of martyrdom).
Simpronianus,
Claudius, Nicostratus, Castorius and Simplicius as the martyrs celebrated on
November 8, And the Albano martyrs Secundus, Carpophorus, Victorinus and
Severianus as celebrated on 8 August.

COLLECT – FIFTH
SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY
In Thine infinite goodness, we beseech Thee, O
Lord, to watch over Thy household, that even as it relies solely upon the hope
of Thy heavenly grace, so it may ever be defended by Thy protection. Through
our Lord.
Second Collect of the Octave of All Saints
Almighty and everlasting God, who hast granted
us to venerate the merits of all thy Saints in one solemnity, vouchsafe to us,
we beseech thee, through the multitude of our intercessors, that abundance of
thy mercy for which we ever have hoped.
Third Collect For Four Crowned Martyrs
Grant, we beseech You, almighty God, that we
who know how courageously Your holy Martyrs have confessed the faith, may
experience their goodness as they intercede for us with You.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who
liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, ever one God,
world without end.
EPISTLE -
Colossians 3: 12-17
Brethren: Put ye on therefore, as the elect of
God, holy and beloved, the bowels of mercy, benignity, humility, modesty,
patience: bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if any have a
complaint against another: even as the Lord hath forgiven you, so do you also.
But above all these things have charity, which is the bond of perfection: and
let the peace of Christ rejoice in your hearts, wherein also you are called in
one body: and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you abundantly,
in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, hymns and
spiritual canticles, singing in grace in your hearts to God. All whatsoever you
do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving
thanks to God and the Father by Jesus Christ our Lord.
GRADUAL - Psalm
43: 8-9
Thou hast delivered us, O Lord, from them that
afflict us: and hast put them to shame that hate us. V. In God we will glory
all the day: and in Thy name we will give praise for ever.
ALLELUIA - Psalm
129: 1-2
Alleluia, alleluia. V. From the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord:
Lord, hear my prayer. Alleluia.
GOSPEL - Matthew
13: 25-30
At that time Jesus spoke this parable to the
multitudes: The kingdom of heaven is likened to a man that sowed good seed in
his field. But while men were asleep, his enemy came and over sowedcockle among
the wheat, and went his way. And when the blade was sprung up and had brought
forth fruit, then appeared also the cockle. And the servants of the good man of
the house coming, said to him: Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field?
Whence then hath it cockle? And he said to them: An enemy hath done this. And
the servants said to him: Wilt thou that we go and gather it up? And he said:
No, lest perhaps, gathering up the cockle, you root up the wheat also together
with it. Suffer both to grow until the harvest, and in the time of the harvest
I will say to the reapers: Gather up first the cockle and bind it into bundles
to burn, but the wheat gather ye into my barn.

From the depths I have cried out to Thee, O
Lord: Lord, hear my prayer: from the depths I have cried out to Thee, O Lord.
SECRET – FIFTH SUNDAY
AFTER THE EPIPHANY
We offer unto Thee, O Lord, the sacrifice of
propitiation, that Thou mayest of Thy mercy, absolve us from our sins, and
Thyself direct our inconstant hearts. Through our Lord.
Second Secret for the Octave of All Saints
We offer to thee, O Lord, the Gifts of our
devotion: may they be well-pleasing to
thee in honor of all the just, and likewise through thy mercy, avail us unto
salvation.
Third Secret - Four Crowned Martyrs
May Your bountiful blessing descend upon us, O
Lord, and by the prayers of Your holy Martyrs may it make our gifts acceptable
to You, and make them a sacrament of redemption for us.
PREFACE OF THE MOST
HOLY TRINITY
It is truly meet and just, right and for our
salvation, that we should at all times and in all places, give thanks unto
Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: Who, together with Thine
only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, are one God, one Lord: not in the
oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we
believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the
same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing
the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and
equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the
Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out with one voice
saying:
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus, Dóminus Deus Sábaoth. Pleni sunt cæli et
terra glória tua. Hosánna in excélsis. Benedíctus qui venit in nómine Dómini.
Hosánna in excélsis.
COMMUNION - Mark
11: 24
Amen I say to you, whatsoever you ask when you
pray, believe that you shall receive, and it shall be done to you.
POSTCOMMUNION –
FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPIPHANY
We beseech Thee, almighty God, that we may
obtain the effect of that salvation, the pledge of which we have received in
these mysteries. Through our Lord.
Post Communion for Octave of All Saints
Grant, we beseech thee, O Lord, that thy
faithful people may ever rejoice in honoring all thy Saints, and may be
defended by their unceasing prayers.
Post Communion - Four Crowned Martyrs
We who have been fed with heavenly sacraments
and joys, humbly pray You, O Lord, that we may enjoy the protection of those in
honor of whose victories we rejoice. Through our Lord.
