The Loss of the child Jesus
in the Temple
Most
sorrowful Mother, grief, sorrow and anxiety filled your immaculate heart when
you found you were separated from your Son on leaving Jerusalem.
For
three days He remained lost to you and to your holy spouse. For three days you
sought Him who was the light of your life. And for three days you failed to
find Him.
Let
me join you in this pain, O Queen of Martyrs, and obtain for me the grace to
never lose Jesus through sin, but to stay united to Him by the help of His
grace. If I have the misfortune of falling, may I never doubt His mercy and
always return through the Sacrament of Confession, which He instituted.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, Blessed art thou among

Pray for us sinners Now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we,

for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray
Vouchsafe, O Lord, that we may be helped by the merits of Thy most holy
Mother's spouse; that what of ourselves we can not obtain may be given us

There are some who assert, and not without reason, that this dolor was not only one of the greatest, but the greatest and most painful of all. For, in the first place, Mary, in her other dolours, had Jesus with her: she suffered when Saint Simeon prophesied to her in the temple; she suffered in the flight into Egypt; but still in company with Jesus; but in this dolour she suffered far from Jesus, not knowing where He was: ” And the light of my eyes itself is not with me.” Thus weeping she then said, ‘Ah, the light of my eyes, my dear Jesus, is no longer with me; He is far from me, and I know not whither He is gone.’ Origen says that through the love which this holy Mother bore her Son, ‘she suffered more in this loss of Jesus than any martyr ever suffered in the separation of his soul from his body.’ Ah, too long indeed were those three days for Mary; they seemed three ages; they were all bitterness, for there was none to comfort her.

Prayer
Ever glorious Blessed Virgin Mary, queen of martyrs, mother of mercy,
hope, and comfort of dejected and desolate souls, through the sorrows that
pierced thy tender heart I beseech thee take pity on my poverty and necessities,
have compassion on my anxieties and miseries. I ask it through the mercy of thy
divine Son; I ask it through His immaculate life, bitter passion, and
ignominious death on the cross. As I am persuaded that He honors thee as His
beloved Mother, to whom He refuses nothing, let me experience the efficacy of
thy powerful intercession, according to the tenderness of thy maternal
affection, now and at the hour of my death. Amen.
